The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved an additional $3 million emergency grant to purchase emergency medical supplies as a result of the coronavirus outbreak.
The Japanese government provided the funds from the organization's Asia Pacific Disaster Management Fund. Earlier, ADB has given grants of around 5 million dollars in several rounds. And gave a loan of about 60 million dollars. Last May 7, ADB approved a loan of 500 million dollars to deal with Covid.
This information was informed in a press release of ADB's Dhaka office last Thursday. Manmohan Prakash, Country Director of ADB in Bangladesh, believes that this assistance of ADB will be helpful in providing necessary medical services for the government to deal with Covid and other needs.
He said that this donation will enable the government to purchase essential medicines, collect medical supplies and provide necessary expenses for infection control. He also mentioned the commitment to limit the health and economic losses due to Covid to the minimum possible and to help Bangladesh in its post-Covid socio-economic recovery.
