'Tip' is common in Bangladesh, India, Nepal along with Sri Lanka, Mauritania, Thailand in this subcontinent. In many countries the tip is called bindi - literally meaning drop. Tip is mentioned in the Rigveda, which suggests that tip has been around for about 5000 years!
Tip is also an original and integral part of our Bengali culture. As a proud Bengali you certainly don't want your culture insulted. You will surely promote your tradition. Or what are you Bengali? You will not really become a patron of your culture by writing big bullies in the exam book to get more marks. For this we want to practice culture, give opportunities to practice and support it.
Our artifacts, knowledge and behavior are our culture. The symbols we use are also our culture. When you don't leave the language, when you don't leave the hilsa fish by organizing Pahela Baisakh, why do you leave the tip? Do you become culturally conscious only through singing, dancing, poetry etc.? not at all Your culture is most evident in your behavior, habits, dress, grooming, attitude.
So, protest like a brave, bright Bengali. Stop sitting cross-legged. The death of thousands more like you shows the disrespect of our Bengali heritage. In this case, regardless of religion-occupation-gender, you are constantly violating the ethics of all your identities.
