The traditional Sara Marwari High School of Ishwardi has been spreading the light of education for hundreds of years. Located in the heart of Ishwardi city, this school is the holder and bearer of many history and traditions for a long time. The students of this school vandalized the public meeting of Field Marshal Ayub Khan organized in this school ground. Especially the role of school students in Bangladesh independence movement and liberation war is glorious.
Among the famous students of the school are former army chief JS Chowdhury, former MP Manjur Rahman Biswas, former MP Farooq Saheb of Puthia, head of Dhaka University's management department Professor Hasibur Rashid, Brigadier General Dr. Mohammad Ali Jinnah, flight engineer Abdul Khalek, founder of Kamini Hospital, American expatriate Dr. Mushtaq Ahmed, Canadian Expatriate Engineer LGED Director Moshtaq Ahmed Sabu Heroic Freedom Fighter Abdul Halim Chowdhury Rabir Freedom Fighter Shamchuzzaman Salim Late Language Soldier Mahbub Ahmed Khan Language Soldier Lutfar Rahman Retired Deputy Secretary Hero Freedom Fighter Kamal Ahmed and others.
The first school was established in 1917 at Sara on the banks of the Padma river. At that time Sara was the busiest river port in the region. Keeping in mind the issue of river erosion, the school was shifted to 8.19 acres of land in the heart of Ishwardi after a year. Hari Prasad of the Hindu Marwari community founded the Jhunjhunwala school.
Sara Marwari High School was named because the first establishment was from Sara and the founder was a Marwari. Vidyadhar Dasgupta, a graduate of that time, was the head teacher during the founding period. Since its establishment, it has played a unique role in the expansion of education in the region. There is a huge playground of 150 feet-180 feet.
Apart from this, a rich library and science museum have been here since the early days. After the language movement, the student movement of 1962, the six-point movement of 1966, the mass uprising of 1969 and the liberation war of 1971, the students of the school were pioneers. Now the school has been converted into School and College and nationalized now the school is known as Govt Sara Marwari Model School and College.
