The western region of the United States has been devastated by wildfires. At least 24 people are believed to have died in this fire so far.
And many people are missing. Firefighters are trying to contain the Oregon wildfires. The governor of the state said many people were missing.
Andrew Phelps, director of Oregon's Department of Emergency Management, said officials are preparing for mass casualties. Thousands of structures have already been destroyed in the fire.
Oregon Governor Kate Brown said 40,000 residents of the state had been evacuated and about 500,000 more could be evacuated.
Wildfires in the western US states of California, Oregon and Washington have already burned a record number of areas. Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler declared a fire emergency.
As a result, he can take special measures for homeless people including opening shelters. The city's famous Forest Park can be closed.
