Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Commissioner and Head of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) Unit. Monirul Islam has become the head of the Special Branch (SB) of the police.
The order was issued in a notification signed by Dhanjay Kumar Das, Deputy Secretary, Public Security Department, Ministry of Home Affairs, on Sunday (March 14) morning.
Monirul Islam replaced Additional Inspector General Mir Shahidul Islam as SB chief. SB chief Mir Shahidul Islam is retiring today.
He already had a farewell meeting with the Prime Minister last Thursday (March 11).
Monirul Islam was born on 15 June 1970. He joined Bangladesh Police as ASP in 1995 through Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) examination.
He served 9 years in the Intelligence Branch and two years in the Special Branch. Besides, he is one of the founding officers of CTTC.
On 16 February 2016, he took charge as the head of the newly formed Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit of the police to eradicate militancy and terrorism.
He received the Bangladesh Police Medal and the President's Police Medal in recognition of his career.
