Chittagong City Corporation elections were held fairly peacefully: Kader

General Secretary of Awami League and Minister of Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader said that Chittagong City Corporation elections were held fairly peacefully.

He said this at a press conference after the Chittagong City election from his official residence on Wednesday (January 27).

Quader said that BNP has chosen the path of violence through terrorist activities including breaking the EVM machine of the ward councilor candidate supported by them and occupying the center. Which has already been publicized in various media including social media.

As always, BNP is trying to put its responsibility on the leaders and workers of Awami League by creating a situation of questioning the election without taking part in the polling field.

Obaidul Quader said that the presence of voters in the polling station was satisfactory after overcoming the fear of corona epidemic.

Voter turnout was slightly lower than expected due to non-declared public holidays and suspension of public transport on the occasion of the elections.

In this election, BNP candidates and activists did not get the kind of facilities they got in the election field even during their tenure. BNP has failed to provide agents in all 735 centres.

They don't have that organizational capacity either. They have chosen the path of terror to cover their weakness and divert the public opinion.

General Secretary of Awami League said that the people of the city never supported BNP in the Chittagong City Corporation elections.

Even when they were in power, Awami League-backed mayoral candidates won. Although Manzoor Alam was selected as a BNP candidate only once, he was basically a man of Awami ideology politically.

BNP fielded Manzoor Alam from Awami League to win the polls.

In order to make the election peaceful and free, 18 thousand police and Ansar members as well as 25 platoons of BGB were deployed for security.

I thank the Election Commission for conducting fairly free and peaceful elections. On behalf of Awami League, I wish and congratulate all the voters, the public and everyone involved in the election.
