The seeds of corruption have been sown by the post-seventy-five governments that seized power illegally. First Ziaur Rahman then Ershad, then Khaleda Zia.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said these words while inaugurating the silver jubilee of Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) on Sunday (October 25).
He joined through video conference from Gana Bhavan.
The prime minister said that the seeds of corruption have been sown by the governments that illegally occupied power after 75. First Ziaur Rahman then Ershad, then Khaleda Zia.
They have not only condoned corruption, they themselves have become corrupt and nurtured corruption. But we are never doing that after coming to Awami League government.
Sheikh Hasina said, if there is any corruption or irregularity somewhere, we do not care whether the party is involved in it or not.
Is my so-and-so involved? Will the party be discredited or not? We never think about whether the government will be discredited or not. I think we have to take action against the injustice done there.
In taking it, many times the blame falls on us. Then it seems that the Awami League government is doing corruption. Actually it is not like that.
What was once in our country? Whatever corruption and irregularities there were, they were covered up. And the problems are hidden under the carpet as they say. Our government is not doing that.
Referring to the newspaper as a mirror of the society, the Prime Minister said that the mirror of the society should at least awaken patriotism among the people, they should be motivated for the welfare of the people. Let them work for the welfare of people.
