The death toll has increased to seven in a loud explosion in the capital's Moghbazar. Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). Shafiqul Islam visited the scene and reported the death of seven people.
The victims were not immediately identified. However, the fire service is still not sure what caused the explosion.
More than fifty people were injured in the incident. They have been admitted to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College (Dhamek) Hospital and various surrounding hospitals.
The explosion happened in Moghbazar Wireless area at 7:30 pm on Sunday (June 27). Locals said that the incident took place due to the explosion of the generator of Sharma House under the four-storey building.
140 officers of 14 units of fire service are conducting rescue operation there.
Faisalur Rahman, Station Officer of Ramna Fire Station, said that the explosion in the air conditioner was initially suspected, but it was not immediately confirmed where the explosion took place. However, the explosion occurred inside the ground floor of the building. He said that the number of injured and killed may increase.
