The Narayanganj district police arrested eight persons including the chairman of the company Abul Hasem and his son Sajib in connection with the fire in the Sejan juice factory of the Hashem Foods and Beverage Company in Rupganj, Narayanganj.
Narayanganj District Superintendent of Police Mohammad Zayedul Alam confirmed the matter. He also said that the police have filed a murder case under Section 302 as the plaintiff in this incident.
Meanwhile, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal visited the site today Saturday (July 10). Later, while talking to the journalists, he also informed about the arrest of eight people.
The Home Minister said that eight people including the Chairman-MD have been arrested in connection with the fire in the food factory (Cezanne Juice factory) of Hashem Food and Beverage, a subsidiary of Sajib Group, in Rupganj, Narayanganj.
Around 5:30 pm on Thursday afternoon, a terrible fire broke out in the six-storey factory building of Hasem Food and Beverage owned by Sajeev Group in Bhultar Karangop area of Rupganj Upazila of Narayanganj. When the fire service personnel were able to bring the fire under control at around 7 pm yesterday, 26 hours had passed. The fifth and sixth floors were still to be searched. Three workers lost their lives after jumping from the building after the fire. In total, 53 people have lost their lives so far.
About 400 of the factory's 6,000 workers were working overtime on Thursday afternoon, authorities claimed. However, the workers claimed that thousands of workers were working. Hundreds were trapped there after the fire. A group of workers approached officials on the fourth floor to demand a safe exit. It is known from various sources that the workers died after being trapped there.
