Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse, who came to Dhaka to participate in the celebration of the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the Golden Jubilee of Independence, has expressed interest in strengthening bilateral relations with Bangladesh. He expressed his interest in a tweet.
In a tweet, Rajapakse wrote, he wants to work with Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her government to strengthen bilateral relations so that both countries benefit.
And on reaching Dhaka in another tweet, he said, he received a warm welcome and a guard of honor at the airport. Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina welcomed him. He is honored to be a part of this golden jubilee celebration of independence.
Earlier, the Sri Lankan Prime Minister arrived at Dhaka's Shahjalal International Airport around 10 am on Friday. Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina welcomed him there with flowers.
After reaching the airport, he paid tribute to the martyrs who died in the liberation war at Savar National Memorial.
Rajapakse will hold an official meeting with President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday.
Rajapaksa was given a red carpet reception at the airport's VVIP terminal. He was welcomed with 21 gun salutes.
When Sheikh Hasina reached the reception stage with Mahinda Rajpakse, a well-equipped team of three forces gave a guard of honour.
