Awami League's Joint General Secretary and Information Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud's statement "42 prominent intellectuals who have made statements against EC, who speak for BNP at various times, are the ones who have made these statements. Bangladesh National Awami Party-Bangladesh NAP Chairman Jebel Rahman Gani and Secretary General M. commented that the statement is ridiculous and an attempt to hide the failure. Golam Mustafa Bhuiyan.
The leaders made these comments in a statement sent to the media on Sunday (December 20).
They said that the appeal made by prominent citizens of the country to His Excellency the President highlighting the failure of the EC will surely be considered by His Excellency the President and the Prime Minister. Since there have been various complaints against the EC including various financial scams, the conscious citizens of the country can request an investigation. And states and governments can, if necessary, discuss their applications, and even investigate allegations.
The leaders said that if any complaint is made against someone, the character of prominent citizens of the country or the tendency to identify them as supporters of BNP can never be good. By doing this, the government may also fall into embarrassment. All the countrymen including Honorable Minister of Information know that the 42 distinguished citizens who applied to His Excellency the President are people who support the spirit of the Liberation War. All should think things through before raising allegations against them.
They said that no one becomes BNP just by criticizing the government's failure or corruption. Any citizen of the country, even the supporter of the government, has the right to criticize it. Therefore, the tendency to make someone BNP calls into question good governance and transparency. Which is not beneficial for the government or the people. Government ministers and government party leaders need to be more aware and responsible about these issues. Even listening to criticism requires patience. Because, responding to any issue or over-talking them on any issue may lead to embarrassment for the honorable Prime Minister and many of his actions will be called into question.
