Last Thursday (April 22), one of the scientists involved in the research told the media, 'The information that our colleagues in Europe have given so far about this variant is a bit worrying. However, it is not yet time to reach a decision in this regard.'
The results of obtaining new variants in the sample genome sequence between April 8 and 19 have been published in the GISAID database.
Scientists have identified another new variant of Corona virus in Bangladesh. This variant named B.1.525 was identified for the first time in the UK on December 15 last year. The variant was also available in Nigeria in the same month. According to Global Initiative on Sharing All Influenza Data (GISAID) data, eight samples of this variant have been found so far in multiple laboratories in Bangladesh.
Earlier, a South African variant known as B.1.351 or 501.V2 was identified in Bangladesh. In addition, another UK variant known as B.1.1.7 was identified last January. The new variant, named B.1.525, has so far been found in 24 countries, including Denmark, the United States and Australia. It also has several mutations, scientists said. One of them is called E484K.
Among them, the scientists of Bangladesh Science and Industrial Research Council have identified six. The other two were identified by scientists, one from the Institute for Developing Science and Health Initiative and one from the Children's Health Research Foundation.
The World Health Organization (WHO) named the variant as a 'variant of interest' in its latest update on the pandemic on Tuesday (April 20).
