95-year-old Kulsum Begum cried with joy after getting a house in the shelter project of old Manikdah village of Gopalganj Sadar Upazila. On Sunday morning, he shed tears after receiving the documents and keys of the house.
Weeping, he said, "Sheikh Hasina has given me a headache in this last life of mine." I will be able to stay at my own address with my daughter and grandchildren abandoned by my husband. I could not imagine that one day I will have my own house or house. As long as I live, I will pray for Sheikh Hasina.
15 years ago Kulsoom Begum's husband Jabbar Ali Matubbar died due to old age. Lived in a 500 taka rental house in a slum in Thanapara of the city. Among two sons and three daughters, two daughters died. He lives with their children.
Tears of joy like Kulsoom Begum can be seen in Abtab Biswas (36) who was paralyzed in a road accident in old Manikdah village of Gopalganj Sadar Upazila, Hedayet Sikder (22) a farmer of Chargobra village and Tikka Sheikh (45) a day laborer of old Manikdah village, rickshaw driver of Malenga village of Nizra Union. Ramich Molla (52), daily laborer Arju Fakir (26), Morjina Begum (50), farmer Abdur Razzaq Mia (80) who works as a weaver in Karpara village, are in the eyes of numerous beneficiaries.
We low income people lead a life without food and family. Because of this, I could not even dream of buying land and building a house. We are very happy that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given us shelter today. There is nothing to do but pray for him.
Keys and land deeds of 555 houses were handed over in Gopalganj at 10:30 am on Sunday. Among them 281 houses in Gopalganj Sadar Upazila, 130 houses in Kashiani Upazila, 110 houses in Muksudpur and 34 houses in Kotalipara. The remaining 252 houses are under construction. They will also be handed over in due time said Deputy Commissioner Shahida Sultana.
The event was organized in Gopalganj Sadar Upazila Parishad auditorium and in respective upazila auditoriums. In the house distribution ceremony of Gopalganj Sadar Upazila Parishad, Zilla Parishad Chairman and Awami League President Chowdhury Emdadul Haque, District Awami League General Secretary Mahabub Ali Khan, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Md. Osman Gani, Sadar Upazila Chairman Sheikh Lutfar Rahman Bachchu, Sadar Upazila Executive Officer. Local Awami League leaders including Rashedur Rahman were present.
