Dairy farmers have protested by pouring milk on the ground in Natore's Singra due to the lack of milk traders from outside due to the lockdown and not getting a fair price for the milk.
About 30 dairy farmers protested by pouring milk on the ground in Bahadurpur Battala area of Kalam Union of the upazila on Saturday morning.
The price of milk is Tk 50 to Tk 60 per litre, but due to the ongoing lockdown, now they have to sell milk at Tk 15 to Tk 20.
The farmers of this area have to count the losses every day. Many farmers are losing interest as the cost of rearing cows is not rising.
Upazila Livestock Officer Dr. Khurshid Alam said, there are about 600 dairy farms in 12 unions of the upazila. We have sent recommendations for setting up milk cooling centers under government management of dairy farm areas including Kalam, Chamari, Hatiandah, Itali and Dahia Unions.
Hopefully, in the future, if milk cooling centers are built in this area, the farmers will get a fair price for milk under government management.
