21 people have died so far among those burnt due to gas leakage or explosion from AC in the mosque. They died while undergoing treatment at Sheikh Hasina Burn Institute.
The condition of the remaining 23 people is critical. Most had burns over 90 percent of their bodies, including their airways.
Those who died from late Friday night to 11:15 Saturday night are - Muazzin of the mosque Delwar Hossain (45), Sabbir (22), Junaid (7), Jamal (40), Zubair (14), Humayun Kabir (70), Mostafa Kamal (34), Ibrahim (43), Rifat (18), Junaid (17), Quddus Bepari (72), Rashed (30), Zainal (50), Mainuddin (12), Nayan (27) Kanchan Howlader (50) , Md. Russell (34) and Bahar Uddin (55), Imam of the mosque. Abdul Malek (60) and Mizan (34) journalist Nadeem (20).
Farid (55), Sheikh Farid (21), Monir (30), Abul Basar Molla (51), Shamim Hasan (45), Md. are still admitted in the burn unit of the hospital. Ali Master (55), Md. Kenan (24), Nazrul Islam (50), Rifat (18), Abdul Aziz (40), Hannan (50), Abdus Sattar (40), Julhas Uddin (30), Amjad (37), Mamun (23) and Imran (30).
Doctors said that everyone's condition is critical, more or less everyone has burnt airways.
The local administrative officer who came to see the injured in the hospital said that everything will be investigated. The investigation committee formed in this incident has been asked to report within 10 days.
Eyewitnesses said that on Friday (September 4) during Isha prayer at Baituch Salat Jame Masjid in West Talla of Fatulla Police Station of Narayanganj Sadar Upazila, an electric transformer near the mosque exploded with a loud noise.
At the same time, there was an explosion of the AC inside the mosque. Instantly a fire caught inside the mosque. When the flames spread, the worshipers started getting burnt.
