Lama Banviag distributed financial compensation checks to families and individuals affected by elephant attacks in Tain Range area of Alikadam, Bandarban.
On Wednesday (June 30) at 11:30 a.m., checks were distributed through a ceremony at the Upazila Parishad auditorium.
According to the forest department, 4 lakh 60 thousand rupees have been given to the 25 affected persons and their families and 3 lakh rupees to 6 lakh rupees will be given to the two dead persons, said Tainj Karmaktar.
Under the chairmanship of Upazila District Officer Syed Iqbal, Upazila Chairman Md. Abul Kalam was present as the chief guest in the event.
Lama Forest Division Assistant Forest Officer Khandkar Md Giaz Uddin, Upazila Vice Chairman Kofil Uddin, Chaikshyong UP Chairman Ferdous Rahman, Range Officer Zahir Uddin Minar Chowdhury and various forest workers and affected persons and families were also present in the ceremony.
Upazila District Officer M. Syed Iqbal said in the president's speech, "Day by day, people are making their homes in the mountains, as a result, many fruit trees are being cut down and the habitats of wild animals including elephants are being destroyed. Due to this, the animals living in the mountains are suffering from food shortage. Therefore, even if they are forced to come to the locality, elephants attack someone voluntarily. doesn't So don't block the path of the elephants. We will do more campaigns in the future when the wildlife comes to the locality so that no one attacks or obstructs the path of the wildlife. He also advised everyone present to plant more trees in the rainy season.
Last January 23, when the elephant moved to the locality at midnight, when they tried to set fire to the elephant, Humayun Kabir and Mansoor Alam were killed and many others were injured and many houses were destroyed.
