Three 'cheetah' cubs have been rescued from a paddy field in Laksam, Comilla. On Monday (May 11) afternoon, a man named Masum Khan with the help of locals seized the cubs from the cropland of Changaon Nowapara village of Kandirpar union of the upazila.
Later in the night, police raided and recovered three cubs. However, the police could not confirm whether the rescued cubs were tigers or wild cats.
According to local sources, Masum Khan, son of Haji Cherajul Islam of Changaon Noapara, Laksam Upazila of Comilla, saw three cubs of 'cheetahs' while cutting paddy in their crop land. With the help of locals, he captured the cubs alive.
Sources say that Masum kept two of the three cheetah cubs for himself and gave the other cub to a person in the neighboring area. He kept two cubs under his control and gave a status on Facebook to sell them.
Since then, he has not been seen by the people of the area to see the cubs. He has also been accused of misbehaving with the locals.
When Masum Khan was contacted on the phone, he confirmed the detention of three leopard cubs.
He claimed that Paswarti gave one cub to a person named Arif in the area and released two cubs in his possession. However, the police brought three cubs from separate places to the police station at night.
When asked, Laksam police station officer-in-charge (OC) Md. Nizam Uddin said that it has not been confirmed whether the cubs are tigers or wild cats. Our Thana police force conducted a raid around 8 pm and rescued three cubs. Now we will contact the forest department and hand them over to them.
