Corona infection and death rate is increasing in Rangpur division. 15 people have died in eight districts of Rangpur division in the last 24 hours (till 8 am on Monday).
Among them are four in Dinajpur, three in Thakurgaon, three in Rangpur, one in Panchagarh, one in Nilphamari, two in Lalmonirhat and one in Kurigram. In the last five days, 63 people including seven women have died. So far, the death toll in the department has reached 582.
In the last 24 hours, after testing the samples of 1,975 people, 676 people have been diagnosed with corona. A total of 1 lakh 63 thousand 369 people have been sampled in Rangpur division. 28 thousand 924 people have become corona positive. 21 thousand 31 people have recovered.
Meanwhile, there are no beds available in the 100-bed Corona Dedicated Hospital in Rangpur. So new patients are not being admitted. A new unit has been opened at Rangpur Medical College Hospital as an alternative to handle the patient pressure.
Director of Rangpur Divisional Health Directorate (Acting) Dr. Abu Md. Zakirul Islam said that the infection rate has increased alarmingly in the bordering districts of Dinajpur, Thakurgaon and Lalmonirhat along with the divisional city Rangpur.
A 40-bed Corona Ward has been introduced at Rangpur Medical College Hospital as an alternative measure to deal with patient pressure. Its scope will be increased gradually.
