Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Malek said that the age limit for registration to get vaccinated to prevent the spread of the epidemic coronavirus is being considered to be 18 years. He said this after inaugurating the ICU expansion and OPD of Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Thursday.
The National Technical Advisory Committee has recommended raising the age limit for vaccination to 18 years. In view of this, we are thinking whether the age limit for vaccination can be further reduced or not. A discussion was also held with the Honorable Prime Minister in this regard. He also has an instruction. Our technical committee also told us yesterday whether 18 years and above can be vaccinated.
We want to send our sons and daughters to schools and colleges soon. I am vaccinating the teachers, now those who are above 18 years, I will also bring them under vaccination. I will give them the opportunity to go to school and college. Because a year of their life is wasted. It will be a great loss for the country, for the nation.
Registration for vaccination started in the country on January 26. Initially citizens above 40 years of age could register for vaccination. And on July 5, the Department of Health said that registration for vaccination can be done only after the age of 35 years. However, this age limit is not applicable for those who are working on the front lines to fight the coronavirus pandemic.
