The space under the flyover will be vacated gradually: Tapas

Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Barrister has announced that the area below the flyover will be vacated gradually. Sheikh Fazle Noor tapas.

DSCC Mayor Barrister Tapas said this after inaugurating the 'Lakshibazar Playground' in Lakshibazar area of Ward No. 42 of the city in the afternoon while interacting with reporters.

DSCC Mayor Barrister Sheikh Tapas said, the areas under the flyover are in a state of widespread encroachment, mismanagement, littered with garbage. Different circles are occupying them and doing different types of dances.

We will vacate them gradually. We will make arrangements so that the traffic can move and there is an open environment, we will make arrangements.

DSCC Mayor Barrister Sheikh Tapas further said in this context, we have taken a new initiative from today. We are streamlining our traffic engineering management at intersections, taking up the process of modernization. Today we started this activity from Moghbazar intersection.

Tapas said, according to my election manifesto, I want to make open space and playground for children in every ward in Dhaka South City Corporation area. In this Laxmibazar area there is not even an iota of free space where children can play. Although today's Laxmibazar field is small, we have made it a field.

Earlier, illegal occupiers were occupying it and conducting market activities, we cleared it of illegal occupation. In this way, we will arrange playgrounds for our children in each ward.

Regarding the playground, DSCC Mayor Barrister Tapas also said that we have already identified places in wards 7, 13, 27 and 35. There we will provide open space, playground for children.

DSCC Mayor Barrister Sheikh Tapas said extensive activities have been undertaken to alleviate waterlogging during the monsoon season and said that the canals are being freed from illegal encroachment, cleaning activities are ongoing.

Along with that, we are working to keep the water flow of the canals. We are working on mosquito control. Mosquitoes have come under control much more than before. InshaAllah, mosquitoes will come under control in the DACC area in the future.

As a part of the weekly regular inspection program, earlier DSCC Mayor visited various parts under Mogbazar-Mouchak flyover at Mogbazar intersection and gave various directions.

Later he walked from Moghbazar intersection to Ramna police station and stopped at several places and gave various instructions to ease the traffic jam.

After inaugurating the field, DSCC Mayor inspected the ongoing road construction work in front of Mitford Hospital and directed the concerned department to complete it by the 22nd due to the complaints of the residents.

At this time, among others, the chief executive officer of the corporation, chief engineer Rezaur Rahman, secretary Akramuzzaman, the councilors of the general seats and reserved seats of the respective wards, the regional executive officer of region-4 Md. Haider Ali, Chief Property Officer Russell Sabrin, Chief Revenue Officer Ariful Haque, Additional Chief Engineer. Zafar Ahmed, Supervising Engineer Munsi Mohammad Abul Hashem, Qazi Md. Borhan Uddin, Md. Khairul Baker was present.

It may be noted that this year on January 28 (Thursday), this place, which has been in illegal occupation for 25 years, was cleared by the DSCC mobile court.

The next working day i.e. January 31, in an official meeting, DSCC Mayor Barrister Sheikh Tapos Corporation Chief Executive Officer ABM Amin Ullah Noori and Chief Engineer Rezaur Rahman ordered to build a playground in the rescued area.

It should also be noted that a person named Billu had allotted 10.08 square meters of land in Laxibazar area from DSCC (then Dhaka City Corporation) in 1995 in the name of car parking.

As per the terms, the lease was to be paid in two installments, but the corporation canceled its lease in 1995 as the second installment was not paid on time after the first installment was paid.

When the lease was terminated, one Billu was aggrieved and filed a civil suit against the termination of the lease and was able to obtain a permanent injunction against the eviction while the car was parked.

In the leased space for car parking described later, a person illegally set up a market in the Billu car parking space. For a long time, he did not pay any money to the corporation, but he continued to enjoy this illegal income.

Finally, on the afternoon of January 28 this year, the mobile court led by DSCC Executive Magistrate AH Irfan Uddin Ahmed evicted the illegal market adjacent to Laxibazar Main Road at No. 73 and 79 Subhash Bose Avenue.

During the eviction operation, approximately 40 cloth shops and raw markets were demolished that day.
