Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Atiqul Islam said that ward councilors are negligent in their duties behind the increase of mosquitoes in the capital.
He made this comment on Saturday (March 13) at around 9 am when he came to Bhatara area of the city to inspect the activities of the fifth day of DNCC's anti-mosquito program.
Earlier on Saturday at 8 am, DNCC started the anti-mosquito crush program from 100 feet road in front of Bhatara police station. Mayor Atiqul came there shortly after the campaign began.
In response to a question, the mayor said that the residents of the city are not getting rid of the mosquito infestation soon. However, all efforts are being made by North City Corporation.
He said that the infestation of Culex mosquitoes has increased in the capital. As a result, since March 8, we have been conducting operations in various areas of DNCC to kill mosquitoes. One thousand 400 workers are working simultaneously in this operation.
He also said, we have seen in this campaign, mosquito breeding is more in privately owned reservoirs. The owner should keep these places clean at his own responsibility. Otherwise, a regular case will be filed against them.
Regarding the use of fogger machines during the day, the mayor said that the mosquito extermination campaign is going on as per the advice of entomologists.
During the visit, DNCC Chief Executive Officer Salim Reza, Chief Health Officer Brigadier General Md. DNCC officials along with Jobaidur Rahman and local area councilors were present.
