Three people were killed in a mob thrashing on suspicion of cattle rustlers in Prem Bagh of Jessore's Abhaynagar Upazila.
The incident took place in front of the railway crossing in Majumdar para of Prembagh village of the upazila around 4 am on Monday. The age of the deceased is estimated to be 35 to 45 years. However, the police did not know their names and identities. The police and locals said that some thieves came to the house of Khorshed Ali in Gaidgachi village of Jessore Sadar Upazila in a pickup around four o'clock on Monday morning.
At that time they entered Khorsed Ali's cowshed and stole three cows and started running away. When the owner of the house screamed, the locals chased the thieves.
The cow theft was reported from the microphone of the mosque in the area. The locals caught the three thieves in front of the railway crossing in Majumdar Para of Prembagh village after driving them for about one and a half kilometers. Two people died on the spot.
Another person died on the way to Abhaynagar Upazila Health Complex. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Abhaynagar Police Station Tajul Islam said that three people died in the thrashing on the suspicion of thieves. Three cows were rescued. However, their names and identities have not yet been known.
